Designing with Nature - Redefining Green Design for Resilience beyond LEED
with an introduction to AIA’s 2020 initiative “Call for Action - Confronting Climate Change”
by Yew Kee Cheong
Designing for resilience and a sustainable future is no longer just mitigation of negative impacts on the planet’s natural systems, but now a race and rescue mission. The approach must be based on an understanding of the planet’s ecology and its natural systems, being the ultimate basis for addressing issues of local and global environmental impairment, and secondary aspects such as climate change. The presentation will discuss a comprehensive holistic approach for designing based on science of ecology, on principles of eco-mimicry of the ecosystem concept, and on bio-integration of a set of infrastructures. The presentation will be illustrated by design and built works of the presenter.
