Celebrating Women in Construction and Architecture, Inspiring Inclusivity
March 7, 2024
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
AIA Middle East and RIBA joined forces to create a joint panel discussion celebrating International Women’s Day at Technal’s Showroom in Dubai. It was an inspiring evening celebrating the stories and achievements of women in architecture and design in the UAE! From diverse roles to trailblazing work, our panelists shared narratives of empowerment and equality. We explored the perceptions of women working in the middle east, of women working in the industry in general, and how cultural norms and societal expectations impact their work. A very lively discussion was held about career challenges and barriers and how these could be turned into opportunities.

Breaking Boundaries: Theory & Practice, Levels of Place Understanding, and Disciplines of Knowledge, by Rami Daher
May 2024 (Exact date to be confirmed)
Amman, Jordan
This presentation aims to establish a vital connection and synergy between theory and practice in architecture, heritage conservation, urban design, and planning. While it may initially seem focused on the technical aspects of building technology and construction detailing, its essence transcends these 'technical' realms. At its core, it seeks to integrate visionary thinking, informed by theory and research, into practice. This involves critical examination of concepts such as 'Site', 'Program', 'Type', and 'how places are understood', and the impact of these considerations on architecture, place, and society."
