Greetings from AIA Canada Society,
Happy December everyone – we hope the upcoming holidays are helping to bolster your spirits!
As the Immediate Past President and the chapter representative to AIA International, I am pleased to report on behalf of AIA Canada.
A new Board of Directors was appointed, who have been pivotal in shepherding the Chapter into its current form, strengthening our governance, establishing national planning policies, and setting a solid foundation for success:
Dora Ng, AIA – President
Lara Presber, AIA – Past-President
Pauline Thimm, AIA – Vice-President
Brian Wall, Intl Assoc AIA – Secretary
Stuart Howard, AIA – Acting Treasurer

Dr. Adam Pantelimon, Intl Assoc AIA, FRIBA – Director, AIA International Chapter Representative
To strength our collaboration with the professional Canadian organizations, the Chapter hosted its first in-person event in Calgary this year to coincide with the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada annual conference.
The Chapter is continuing its quarterly collaboration with Canadian Architect. Updates are used to communicate the achievements and developments made by the Chapter, ongoing events in the architectural community within Canada or internationally, as well as to encourage member engagement in the Chapter’s activities.
The Board met several times this year to develop the AIA Canada Society Strategic Plan based on the visioning session held at the end of 2022 with the following goals:
1. Identify Core Values through a Community Wellbeing lens.
2. Establish Vision and Priorities
3. Align with AIA National Mission, Vision and Values.
The Chapter’s 2024 and Beyond Strategic Goals were identified as follows:
• Build strategic partnership with RAIC and other organizations in the AEC industry
• Connect with Universities/Educators and support students in Architecture and related professions
• Promote expertise of existing and future AIA Canada members
• 2024 AIA Canada Design Awards
• Seek Sponsorship for In-Person Learning and Events
• Seek Volunteer Members to join the Board (role of Treasurer and other committee Directors).
Over this year, AIA Canada has produced Continuing Education courses for a total of 25.5 learning units, 19 of which are HSW (Health, Safety and Welfare) credits.
In the fourth edition of the AIA Canada Design Awards, the chapter gave 10 Excellence award, 4 Merit awards, 4 Citations and 1 honourable mention . Additionally, the chapter gave awards to first, second and third place students, providing them with 3 scholarships.
2 winners were then selected to participate at the AIA International Design Awards 2024.
On behalf of the AIA Canada Board of Directors and team of volunteers, thank you to everyone for your contributions.
Wishing you all a prosperous and joyful new year!
Truly yours,
