Event Description
Jason Holland of STUDIO DOHO will discuss the use of storytelling to create interior spaces; with a focus on experience and narrative-based projects in China. He will explore STUDIO DOHO's process and learnings when working with international and Chinese brands to create retail spaces that reflect the unique voice of the brand and engage consumers.

Jason Holland is a licensed architect in Alabama with over 10 years of experience in China. He co-founded Shanghai-based STUDIO DOHO with Xin Dogterom in 2016 which specializes in interiors for F&B, Retail and Office projects across China. DOHO was awarded Silver in the 2019 World Interior News (WIN) Awards for Best Emerging Interiors Practice and has been shortlisted for the 2020 awards. In addition DOHO has been listed in the AD100 Young Architects China, representing the top 100 emerging practices in China.
Prior to STUDIO DOHO, Jason worked in the Shanghai office of Atkins and then served as a design project manager in various roles as a client representative and site-based architect for international clients building key projects in China. His almost four years of full-time site-based work in China provided a unique perspective to launch DOHO and ensure projects are delivered to a high standard.
Jason received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Auburn University, where he also studied at the internationally recognized Rural Studio as a second year student. Additionally he was awarded a FIPSE Grant to study for a semester in Mexico City. He also interned at Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Vermont and was a summer intern at Studio Daniel Libeskind in NYC. Upon graduation he received an AIAS travel grant to study natural building in a rural Costa Rican village. In 2009 he undertook a 4000 mile bicycle trip across the USA with an organization called Bike and Build, which serves to raise funds and awareness for affordable housing in the USA.
Jason is an active member of the AIA Shanghai Chapter where he served as the 2019 and 2020 Treasurer. He also created the budget and managed the finances for the 2019 AIA International Conference in Shanghai. In 2020 he also led the effort application effort for COF Grant for Emerging Professionals which was awarded in full to the Shanghai Chapter to launch our Emerging Professionals component.
Having more than 25 years of experience worldwide in planning, design, operations, and management, Anderson brings interdisciplinary knowledge underpinned by a comprehensive understanding of local and global practices. He had nurtured high-performing integrated teams that delivered innovative yet practical solutions to clients, with his astute sense of the market and in-depth expertise. In his current role with AECOM, he drives the growth across Mainland China as well as develops and executes the business strategy, cultivates new client relationships, and deepens existing ones.
Moderator: Starting as an architect and urban designer, Anderson Hsieh has worked at international firms such as EDAW and HOK. In recent years he spearheaded various urban regeneration and transit-oriented development projects and received recognition as an export by the Beijing Urban Planning Society. Significant projects Anderson has contributed to in his career in Mainland China include Nantong Transit Hub urban design, the Daye Lake Ecological New District in Huangshi, and Dongguan West Transit Hub—all received planning awards in China recently.
He is the American Institute of Architects Shanghai 2022 Vice President & 2023 President, a registered architect in Taiwan, and a LEED-accredited professional. He graduated from Chung Yuan Christian University with a Bachelor of Architecture and received his Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design degree from Columbia University.
