Buddy Holly Hall altered the social fabric of Lubbock by linking the community and it’s education system to a global network of performance spaces.
The project is a new model for sharing between of civic, educational and arts infrastructure and is an exemplar for flexibility. The architecture was inspired by the landscape of West Texas and it introduced energy efficient transparency in environment that is typically opaque to shade from the heat. The community funded project integrates local arts institutions into the daily life of the city, celebrating their work and inspiring a new generation of artists.
The presentation of this AIA Canada award of excellence building will review the design in detail.
