AIA UK Sustainability Lecture: Low tech is the new high tech with Raphael Lafargue
When: Thursday 14 October 2021 @ 13:30 (Eastern US Time)/ 18:30 (UK time)
CES Credits - 1.0 LU/ HSW for AIA Members
Description
Our Sustainability Lecture series continues, with Raphael Lafargue of climate engineering firm Transsolar.
When the last IPCC report was issued in summer 2021, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that the report signals a code red for humanity. However, there is still a chance to avert climate catastrophe, if we act now. No more excuses, no more delays. As the building sector represents 40% of the global greenhouse gas emissions, designers for the built environment have a responsibility to make a change.
Through various project examples, Raphael will present the Transsolar approach as a paradigm shift in using low tech design, vernacular architecture and thermal comfort principles to design buildings that have minimal impact on the environment.
Speaker Bio
Raphael Lafargue, Climate Design Engineer, Transsolar
Raphael is driven by a natural curiosity and seeks answers to unsolved questions. Therefore, he works on projects that lead climate engineers in border areas, where phenomena of physics must be understood to recreate or use the effect. An expert in thermal simulation analysis for indoor and outdoor thermal comfort modelling, Raphael Lafargue has not only developed strategies for low energy and self-sustaining buildings, but also designed passive measures aiming for comfort in public realm worldwide.
