As part of the London 2022 Conference, we were delighted to welcome participants and invited guests to celebrate the ninth annual AIA International Design Awards. This popular event was held in the beautiful setting of 100 Liverpool St by Hopkins Architects.
The awards presentation opened with introductions by AIA International’s President, Scott Gold, AIA, SAME and Design Awards program chair, Dr Christine Bruckner, FAIA. Fortunately for us, Steven W. Miller, FAIA, RIBA, was there to represent this year’s distinguished jury, which also included Anne Schopf, FAIA (Jury Chair) and Takashi Yanai, FAIA; he introduced each project and gave the audience an insight into the adjudication process.
The awards themselves ranged across Architecture, Interior Architecture, Open International, Urban Design and Unbuilt categories, and closed with the Firm Award. As in past years, winning projects were eligible for further recognition for combining exceptional design with sustainability, in the form of the Sustainable Future Award developed with Dow. For 2022, we also introduced a new Inclusive Design Excellence Award (IDEA) to honour projects which excelled in this important area, demonstrating meaningful, inclusive and accessible integrated design that supports all people.

We were also able to welcome some winners from previous years to collect their certificates in person. This included a certificate for David Chipperfield’s Museo Jumex, which won an Honor award back in 2015!
