AIA Shanghai began 2020 with the theme 2020 Vision: A Focused Look Ahead with the plan to focus events on discussing the future of design and how cutting edge designers our working to improve our cities and how we live. Of course, that vision has had to change suddenly to adapt to the new constraints imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic and the hardships imposed on our community. To help recognize the contributions our members make in assisting the recovery and encourage everyone to get involved in the way that is most meaningful for them, AIA Shanghai is offering a matching discount on
local dues or event registrations for verified charitable contributions.
Our program for events and learning continues through online webinars, with the new focus on responding the new environment for work. We held a webinar with Louie Cheng, President of PureLiving China on “Is Your Office Ready for the Team to Return.” On April 16, Frank Swaans, AIA, Vice President of Global Health Services at Gresham Smith Partners and Alex Wang, AIA, Principal at HKS presented “Design Innovations: Healthcare Environments in the Covid-19 Era” which gave attendees
insights into what architects need to consider in designing facilities that can accommodate the urgent response to epidemics.
Looking ahead, we have plans for on-line events about design innovation with Charles Hayes, Partner at IDEO and Thaddeus Pawlowski, Founder and Managing Director of the Columbia University Center for Resilient Cities. We are also organizing a series of events featuring the winners of the 2019 AIA Shanghai Design Awards where they will share their insights on the design process and the future of design in China.
AIA Shanghai wishes everyone health and safety as we learn to adjust to the much-changed world.
