The AIA International region, in partnership with Dow, hosted a thought leadership event titled “Design Excellence for a Sustainable Future”. It was held at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland on September 6th. The event was attended by nearly 100 people, including many of Dow’s corporate clients and partners, and a strong AIA IR contingent mostly from the Continental Europe chapter.
There were several presentations by Dow experts, including an introduction of the Dow/IOC carbon partnership, the Paris 2024 sustainability strategy, and a panel discussion featuring AIA members Greg Yager FAIA, Michael Lischer FAIA, Christine Bruckner FAIA, Lester Korzilius FAIA, and Hiromi Hisoya Int’l Assoc AIA.
The day’s events included a presentation and tour of the IOC Olympic Headquarters. Both events were led by Kim Nielsen, creative director of architects 3XN who designed the project.
A gala dinner with amazing views over Lausanne, good food, and good company rounded out the day’s activities.
The AIA Continental Europe chapter organized a 2nd day of events that included a tour of Le Corbusier’s Villa ‘Le Lac’ (1923).
The event comes out of the collaboration between Dow and the AIA IR to create the Sustainable Future Award that has been part of the AIA IR design awards programme since 2018.
