The AIA International Region was well represented during AIA annual National Conference (A’18) held this year in New York City from June 20th to the 23rd. Our board converged from all corners of the world to take part in both our annual member’s report presentation and our face to face board meeting focusing on the business of our region. Members of the IR attended multiple meetings including the International President’s Forum meeting which included discussions on common practice issues between the AIA and other leading international architectural organizations (RIBA, RAIC, RAIA, AIJ, AIK, etc.) and numerous other events that focus on the international agenda such as the following:
· International Practice Committee Meeting
· Resilient Design in the Developing World
· Global ABI Discussion
· International Project Delivery
· International Practice for Small Firms
· Achieving Resilience and Sustainability in Global Mega-Projects
· Arise Africa
I can report that interest in international practice is robust and that the AIA continues in its efforts to foster stronger relationships with other professional architectural organizations through collaboration and sharing of resources in order to further common objectives that impact the profession and the built realm. It was heartwarming to see so many attendees from our international region during A’18 in New York City, we hope to see this increase over the coming years as we develop more offerings that cater to our international members. We look forward to seeing you next year at A’19 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
