AIA Continental Europe - We will not let hate win
Event Description
Following the tragic shooting in Orlando, considered both an act of terror and a hate crime, the owner of the Pulse nightclub created the onePULSE Foundation to honor the 49 Angels that were taken, the 68 others who were injured and the countless first responders and healthcare professionals who treated them.
Driven by the motto ‘We will not let hate win’ and inspired by community feedback, the Foundation set out to build the National Pulse Memorial, Museum, and Survivors Walk, on the site of the Pulse nightclub and nearby properties, as a sanctuary of hope and healing.
In response to an international call for proposals, an international multidisciplinary team composed of architects, artists, thinkers, museum planners, landscape designers, etc. worked together to create a design response that encapsulates this vision:
A place that will be a tribute to all those affected, to engage and to educate visitors from around the world and will serve as a catalyst for positive change.
A place of remembrance and acceptance, and a sacred and safe place that teaches love, motivates action, and transforms thinking.
A place that makes it clear: We will not let hate win.
