Event Description
3XN has recently completed a transformation of Quay Quarter Tower in Sydney – a first of its kind. Rather than wholesale demolish the existing building (built only in 1976), we proposed a scheme that would retain nearly the entire core (95%) and majority of its structure (65%), adding on new floor space to accommodate new needs.
The possibility to transform existing structures at this scale rather than demolish and build new is a gamechanger, especially with mid and late 20th century towers around the world reaching the end of their perceived lifespans. It is easy to imagine skylines across the world and in London in particular being remade in the years to come.
